Calixte Henry was born in Port-au-Prince, January 3, 1933.  He is famous for not using traditional paint brushes, and instead, painted with razor blades and painting knives which lent a certain finesse and transparency to his paintings. Henry received a fellowship from the Guggenheim Foundation of New York in the 1980s. His works have been widely exhibited in France and in Switzerland as well as in Haiti and the US, and have a world-wide reputation among galleries and collectors. His paintings illustrate scores of books on Haitian art.
