Etienne Chavannes 20 x 24. "Ceremony in the Clearing". A local society gathers under a great tree to honor the deities who live there. Damballa represented as a snake, emerges down the trunk to participate in a feast.  Etienne Chavannes was born in 1939 in Cap-Haitian. He tends to paint religious celebrations, funerals, and sports events. In 1978, his works were exhibited at the Brooklyn Museum in New York City.
